We are a creative and comprehensive centre of musical research excellence, in composition, ethnomusicology, film and screen music studies, musicology and performance.
We combine acknowledged research expertise with a commitment to share our research with the widest possible audience by shaping public discussion, taking a lead in academic debate, and playing a defined role in the cultural life of a capital city.
Strategic collaborations with international organisations, including the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Welsh National Opera, and National Museum Wales, allow us to make extensive contributions to the world of music, both within and beyond academia.

Our School is proud to have a thriving postgraduate community, which takes an active role in shaping our research environment.
Postgraduate students give invited papers at our annual postgraduate study day, attend postgraduate forum meetings and attend invited talks in our John Bird guest lecture series.
