We’d like to share exciting news with you regarding the launching of a new online, open-access educational resource for use in your classes. An entirely digital version of the textbook Musics of Latin America is now available at www.musicsoflatinamerica.org. Originally published by W.W. Norton in 2012, the textbook’s content has been updated and extended. Each chapter takes full advantage of the new online format by including hyperlinks to recordings, musical performances, images, and online essays on a variety of topics. All listening and accompanying guides are linked to either YouTube or Spotify platforms, so no musical purchases are required of students. The web design was developed by Mecha, a communication collective based in Caracas, Venezuela. The extensive reformatting for web publishing was done by myself and T.M. Scruggs, and the relicensing of photos and lyrics was made possible by a financial donation from T.M. and the Quitiplás Foundation.
