The AMS Southwest Chapter is pleased to announce its Spring 2026 meeting, to be held April 10-11, 2026 at the Texas A&M University-Kingsville School of Music. In addition to paper sessions, the meeting will feature a keynote speaker, performances, and an optional excursion to the Padre Island National Seashore.
The program committee invites all music scholars to submit proposals for presentations on any topic related to music history, music history pedagogy, academic administration, music librarianship, public musicology, or music and the digital humanities. In addition to papers representing the wide range of research specializations of the members in our region, we also invite proposals that could be included on a panel on music of the southwestern United States and the country’s borderland regions. Research papers are scheduled for 20 minutes of presentation and 10 minutes of questions and discussion; other formats of varying lengths will be considered, as indicated in the application form.
AMS Southwest encourages participation by scholars at all levels, and particularly participation by graduate students and co-authored presentations. Graduate students (master’s and doctoral) may also submit their papers to the competition for the Hewitt-Oberdoerffer Award.
Guidelines for Submission
Abstracts should include a precise statement of the problem, methodological framework, finding, and implications for specific fields of study. Abstracts must not exceed 250 words. Proposals should be submitted using the following link no later than February 9, 2026: https://forms.gle/E4M9SgtMRx3oudu47
The AMS bylaws stipulate that one must be a member of the national organization in order to be a member of a chapter. Hence, all presenters must be members of the chapter and society.
