Linda Shaver-Gleason Awards 2026
Call for Applications
The North American British Music Studies Association is pleased to announce its Call for Applications for the Linda Shaver-Gleason Awards 2026. These awards honor the life and work of Linda Shaver-Gleason (1983-2020). They are geared toward supporting the continued work of junior scholars who are not more than five years beyond the granting of a terminal degree or not in full-time employment in the field.
An award may be used for whatever recipients believe will help them remain contributing researchers in British Music Studies, whether within academia or more widely. This year we are offering two awards of $500 each. Successful applicants will also receive a year’s free membership in NABMSA.
Recipients must:
· demonstrate the promise and the potential to make an important contribution, in the broadest terms, to British Music Studies
· be not more than five years beyond the granting of a terminal degree or not in full-time employment in the field
· have a verifiable need that a financial award could help alleviate (such as help with an everyday expense, health-, home-, or work-related, or a specific research expense).
Application
To apply, please complete the short application form and submit your C.V., your supporting materials as described below, and one letter of recommendation from a senior scholar (not your principal graduate advisor), to Dr. Leanne Langley, Chair of the Linda Shaver-Gleason Award committee. Please send all materials to lsgaward@gmail.com (operated by Dr. Christopher Scheer). The closing date for receipt of all materials, including the letter of recommendation, is 27 March 2026. The committee will announce its decision in mid-April.
Supporting materials should consist of not more than two of the following: a dissertation chapter or other writing sample; links to blog posts or videos of talks or performances; any other material that represents the applicant’s best scholarship. The letter of recommendation should describe the applicant’s scholarly achievements and potential, and explain how the award will contribute to his or her continued activity in British Music Studies.
