EOI: Co-Editor of Music & Letters Professional Service

Oxford University Press (OUP) is seeking to recruit a new co-editor for Music & Letters to take up the role by 1 October 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. Applicants with expertise in music up to 1500 are particularly encouraged to apply; expertise in global musical practices would also be welcomed. The appointment will be for an initial term of three years.

About Music & Letters:
Music & Letters is a leading international journal of music scholarship, providing a lively critical forum for discussion, debate, and in-depth consideration of a wide range of topics. For over 100 years, the journal has encouraged fruitful dialogue between musicology and other disciplines. Music & Letters is particularly renowned for its vibrant reviews section, the most comprehensive and thought-provoking in any musicological journal.

Music & Letters Editor Roles and Responsibilities:
The Music & Letters team currently consists of a team of three editors and a book reviews editor, supported by the editorial office and an editorial board.

The Editors are responsible for the following, in association with the Publisher:
-setting the editorial direction of the journal;
-obtaining high quality content for the journal and delivering it to the Publisher on schedule;
-coordinating the peer review process and supervising the proof correction process;
-promoting the journal to authors and subscribers;
-meeting with the Publisher, either in person or via phone/online, at least once per year.
