The Department of Music in the College of Arts and Sciences at Case Western Reserve University invites applications for a full-time appointment at the rank of Instructor starting in the fall 2026 semester. The Department seeks a musicologist or ethnomusicologist specializing in global and/or popular music with a strong teaching record. Duties will generally include teaching three courses per semester in addition to a share of departmental advising and adjudication, and may also include directing the Department’s Popular Music Ensemble, which would count as part of the teaching load.
Minimum qualifications include a completed PhD in musicology or ethnomusicology by August 1, 2026, a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, and a documented record of research and publication in musicology and/or ethnomusicology. Desirable additional qualifications include experience in the following areas: teaching graduate seminars, directing college-level popular music ensembles, and performing professionally in popular music, jazz, and/or related idioms.
