Sound in Practice: Teaching, Thinking, and Collaborating
Call for Contributions
Call for Contributions
We invite contributions to the forthcoming edited volume Sound in Practice: Teaching, Thinking, and Collaborating, to be published by the Mexican Center for Music and Sonic Arts (CMMAS). Edited by Dr. William O’Hara and Dr. César Leal, this volume explores the pedagogy of sound studies across disciplines, institutions, and creative practices.
We seek original essays of approximately 4,500 words, in either English or Spanish, that examine the teaching and learning of sound in diverse contexts. We welcome contributions from scholars, artists, educators, and practitioners working across fields such as musicology, media studies, anthropology, geography, literature, engineering, and related disciplines.
Topics may include philosophical approaches to sound in education, interdisciplinary collaborations, community engaged learning, the relationship between teaching and creative practice, innovative lesson plans, creative assessments involving sound and technology, manifestos on the role of sound in twenty first century education, and essays that situate sound studies within the arts, humanities, and sciences. We especially encourage submissions that challenge disciplinary boundaries and propose new ways of thinking about sound as a pedagogical, creative, and intellectual practice.
Please submit a maximum 350 word abstract by August 1, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EDT, using the online submission form.
For the complete call for contributions, including submission guidelines and the full text in both English and Spanish, please visit the CMMAS webpage through the link provided.
Questions about the volume may be directed to cleal@gettysburg.edu.
