CFP: Joint IG meeting (SMT-Milwaukee): Autographs & Archival Documents; Dance & Movement Call for Papers Meetings & Events

Dear Colleagues,

The SMT Autographs and Archival Documents and SMT Dance and Movement Interest Groups will hold a joint meeting at the upcoming SMT conference in Milwaukee, WI, November 5–8, 2026 (time slot TBD).

We invite proposals for 10-minute lightning talks on any theoretical or analytical topic that draws on archival materials, broadly construed, and that addresses intersections between dance/movement studies and archival studies. We welcome perspectives that interrogate or expand on what constitutes music or music-theoretic archives, as they might relate to bodies, movement, or records of oral transmission. Proposals should be a maximum of 300 words and may include up to 3 pages of optional supplementary material, including examples and bibliography.

Possible topics include, but are not limited to: reconstruction of choreographies of the past from archival sources, e.g. Rite of Spring; choreographic notation and interaction with music notation; interpretation and politics of archives of performance and music; and the intersection of analytic methods in dance/movement and music analysis.

Abstracts will be blind reviewed by the other three organizing co-chairs and results will be communicated by September 15th.
