Assistant Professor (Musicology or Ethnomusicology), African and/or African Diasporic Musics Full Time Job

The Department of Art History and Music at Fordham University seeks a full-time tenure-track Ethnomusicologist / Musicologist at the rank of Assistant Professor, with a specialization in African-American, African, and/or Afro-Diasporic Musics.  The position, based at our Rose Hill Campus in the Bronx, begins in Fall 2027.  Candidates should possess:  a terminal degree (Ph.D.) in musicology or ethnomusicology; a dynamic research program; and demonstrated effectiveness as a classroom teacher.

The successful candidate will be responsible for advanced courses directed toward upper-level students in Music. In addition to the primary field of expertise, subspecialties (such as contemporary music production/industry or musical theater) are warmly encouraged. The candidate will also be responsible for introductory courses, aimed at the general student population, in African and/or African-Diasporic musics.  The successful candidate will be strongly encouraged to work closely with other academic departments and programs at Fordham (such as African and African American Studies, American Studies, Communication and Media Studies), and to integrate NYC-area cultural institutions into their teaching.
