We invite submissions for the eleventh annual Iowa Musicology Day. This conference was organized to establish a professional community in the fields of Musicology and Ethnomusicology in the state of Iowa, and to provide a forum in which students, faculty, and independent scholars may present research and gain feedback.
Traditional Paper Format Session– Submission Guidelines Presentations in this session will consist of papers 20 minutes in length, with a 10-minute Q&A. Proposals for lecture-recitals are welcome. Abstracts should be 250 words, and should clearly indicate the scope of the research, its methods, conclusions, and significance.
Lightning Talks – Submission Guidelines This session offers a less formal opportunity for participants to give mini talks addressing recent scholarly activity, pedagogy, public musicology, etc. We envision this session of “lightning talks” as a mutually beneficial time to learn about new directions, make connections for possible collaborations, and receive productive feedback. If you are interested in participating, please submit a 50-word abstract. Please note, “lightning round” talks should be 5 minutes or fewer. Priority will be given to those who are not giving a talk in the traditional paper session, but feel free to submit both kinds of abstracts.
Submission Process
Please email submissions in PDF format. Include the title at the top of the abstract, but do not identify yourself as the author. In a separate file, please submit the title along with your name, mailing address, email address, telephone number, and institutional affiliation or place of residence. Also, specify any technology or instrument needs (such as a piano). Please also indicate if you are currently a student.
