The editorial team for the journal Jazz Perspectives invites submissions for upcoming volumes.
The year 2025 marks one hundred years of electronic sound recording and amplification. It also marks a century since the standardization of the 78 RPM shellac record. Together, these technological innovations greatly expanded the reach of jazz globally as the implementation of industry standards made the recording, production, and dissemination of records more cost effective. This put jazz recordings within reach of a broader spectrum of listeners. That same year saw cultural, social, and political changes: many New Orleans musicians migrated; Southern and Midwestern musicians joined established East Coast jazz bands; and germinal musicians expatriated to Europe. Along with the influx of Black American jazz musicians, many European nations also gained greater access to US-American jazz recordings. These resulting changes greatly expanded the audience for jazz, and its community of creators rapidly grew.
With the above in mind, the editorial team invites submissions on a revolving basis. Though we invite submissions on a range of jazz scholarship, we are especially keen to receive manuscripts in the following areas:
Interested authors may submit their manuscripts through Jazz Perspectives’ online submissions platform:

About the journal:
As a refereed academic journal with an international editorial board of renowned jazz scholars, Jazz Perspectives provides a broad forum for promoting cross-disciplinary scholarly dialogue. Our mission is to stimulate the international study of jazz and its many musical and cultural communities, both past and present. The journal aims to bridge the jazz-as-music and jazz-as-culture divide, as well as to promote broader international perspectives on jazz traditions, discourses, and their legacies. We also welcome submissions from those unaffiliated with academic institutions. As a forum for historical inquiry, music analysis, and cultural studies, Jazz Perspectives is devoted to all aspects of – and all approaches to – jazz scholarship. In addition to articles, the journal includes reviews and essays on significant recent literature and new recordings and media.
