The Music Department at the University of Tampa seeks a full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor of Music with experience in popular musics (broadly defined) of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The primary responsibility of this position is to teach music humanities survey courses on popular styles (e.g. jazz, rock, pop, film music) to majors and non-majors, as well as a music-centered humanities class that includes a focus on reading and writing for the university’s general education curriculum. We seek a faculty member with a passion for teaching who will work to maintain and eventually expand the department’s course offerings in popular musical styles. The successful candidate will also participate in departmental and college/university service, and occasionally oversee senior capstone research (where appropriate). Preferred Qualifications:
• PhD (or ABD) in musicology, ethnomusicology, or related field
• Successful record of teaching at the college level
• Scholarly specialization in popular musics of the twentieth or twenty-first centuries, such as jazz, rock, pop, film/game music, etc.
• Experience teaching non-major music courses
• Experience teaching writing within a music curriculum
