Mark Your Calendars: Call for Applications for the 2027–28 NHC Fellowship Fellowships and Scholarships

Are you planning your upcoming research leave? Would you like to spend it with a community of scholars?

The National Humanities Center is pleased to share the timeline for our 2027–28 Fellowship competition.

The NHC is the only major independently-funded institution in the world dedicated exclusively to the humanities. Our Fellows are free to explore their topics of choice, with access to unparalleled, uninterrupted research support.

We invite humanities scholars from all fields to start preparing their proposals. Please mark your calendars with the following dates for our next application cycle:

Applications Open: July 1, 2026
Application Deadline: October 1, 2026

Starting July 1, you will be able to access the application portal, guidelines, and submission instructions directly on our website. In the meantime, we encourage you to begin considering your project proposal and identifying your three letter writers.
