The study of music history is a crucial part of any musician’s education. Through this study, students become well-rounded musicians who understand the manifold traditions, styles and cultural contexts through which music has defined itself, and continues to do so.
All music history and musicology courses are taught by faculty members who are actively involved in cutting edge research and performance, on topics ranging from Europe in the Middle Ages to Texas in the 20th century and Latin America in the 21st.
Church music today is a broad and ever-changing field. The church musician of this century must be aware of all the aspects currently influencing church music and must be prepared to meet these challenges with knowledge, skill and spiritual preparation. There is certainly room for great diversity in church music. Baylor will seek to value both what you bring to the educational process and the directions that you perceive your future life and ministry moving. Your classes will be taught with a sensitive balance of sound philosophy and practical application.
